The Remarkable Life of John Weld (Gabe Torres, 2018)
The central figure in this documentary, John Weld, was a stuntman, journalist, screenplay writer, and memoirist ("Fly Away Home: Memoir of a Hollywood Stuntman") whose life was, as you might imagine from such a resume, filled with adventure and excitement. Unfortunately, despite having such rich material to work with, the filmmakers have been unable to craft this into a documentary that is either adventurous or exciting, and fails to capture the essence of the man.
The documentary's structure is pretty conventional, moving chronologically through Weld's life, from talking head to dramatic reenactment then back to talking head again, with voice over narration guiding us through the transitions.
